Tulum— The only major Maya archaeological site to overlook the Caribbean Sea is only 128 km (80 mi) south of Cancun; the seaside location gives it a beautiful setting. Tulum contains over 60 different structures and is believed to be one of the most important ceremonial sites for the Maya people. This archaeological zone that dates back more than 7 centuries shows the remains of a huge walled city with roads, homes and businesses by the sea. The major highlight of Tulum is El Castillo, which is a large pyramid that sits on a forty-foot cliff. El Castillo is thought to be a part of a series of lighthouses. The architecture is similar to Chichen Itza but on a much smaller scale; unlike Chichen Itza, you are not allowed to go inside or climb on the pyramids.

Tulum is a Pre-Columbian walled city of the Maya right on the ocean, the number one attraction when visiting the region, the
site consists of a large temple, several auxiliary buildings and huts. There are several other impressive Mayan vestiges within a few hours drive of Playa.
Among them are Ek Balam, Coba, and Chichen Itza.
Chichen Itza - Majestic Mayan city, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988 and recently voted as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
Chichén Itzá Archaeological Site— The largest Maya archaeological site in Yucatan, visit Chichen Itza on a day trip from Cancun, or spend a night at one of the hotels at Chichen to visit the ancient Maya site.
Also, close to the site is a cenote, which is a fresh water sinkhole, where you can swim.
Palenque - Mayan city in the state of Chiapas, Palenque famous for its elaborate paintings. Also well known for having the largest tract of rainforest in Mexico located in the same area. Palenque, a Maya site in a lush jungle in Chiapas, is also extremely impressive
and interesting in the interior of the country.
Coba - A beautiful site; it was one the largest Maya cities in ancient times, but much is still hidden under lush jungle. It boasts the tallest pyramid of the Yucatan Peninsula, the Nohoch Mul. Muyil boasts a lake surrounded by many Maya constructions.
Uxmal Impressive Mayan city-state in the Puc Region, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.
Valladolid is a small city dating from the Spanish Colonial era with lots of period local charm, between Cancun and Chichen Itza. The selection of hotels and restaurants makes it a nice base for a night or two; it's a good deal closer to Chichen, and other impressive Maya ruins at Ek Balam are only about 15 minutes north of town.
Ek Balam , also spelled Ek' Balam or Ek' B'alam, is an important archaeological site of the late classic Maya culture. Ek' B'alam means Black Jaguar or Star Jaguar in the Yucatec Maya language.

Mérida (Yucatán)
Mérida is the capital of the state of Yucatán in Mexico. It has a population of about 750,000, and is the largest city in the Yucatán Peninsula.

Visit Merida a colonial city with a rich cultural life, and the climate is tropical; Visit malls, restaurants and a large central market, concerts, performances and other events are held daily. This is a good place to taste the local Mexican culture.
Visit the grand Pasejo Montejo avenue. is a beautiful, tree-lined street and renovated mansions. Time to enjoy with an ice cream, taste fresh and absolutely delicious tamales and enjoy a horse drawn carriages, called calesas, that will drive you up and down the grand boulevard.
